By comparison, the ATO's dominance\n in Accounting was 20.4%, so this isn't quite the same\n single-source concentration, but it's a remarkably specific\n pattern.\n <\/p>\n <p>\n <strong>Our reading on why this happens:<\/strong> Google's\n AI seems to interpret B2B services queries as\n professional-context questions. When an Australian buyer\n searches \"what does a management consultant do\",\n \"B2B sales process\", or \"is Big 4 worth the cost\", the AI\n reaches for the platforms where professionals already\n discuss their work. Indeed for job descriptions, LinkedIn\n for posts and analysis, Glassdoor for company reviews, Seek\n for industry guides. The line between \"research a B2B service\"\n and \"research a career in that B2B service\" is fuzzier in\n Google's model than most marketers assume.\n <\/p>\n <p>\n <strong>The actionable implication is unusual.<\/strong> For\n most industries, the citation leaderboard tells you where to\n invest. For B2B, it tells you that <em>LinkedIn presence has\n become an AIO citation strategy, not just a recruiting\n channel.<\/em> Strong company pages, employee thought\n leadership, and consistent Australian-context posts on\n LinkedIn now drive citation alongside their original purpose.\n <\/p>\n <p>\n <strong>Wider context:<\/strong> 49.6% of B2B AIO citations\n point to Australian domains. A\n <strong>33.6 percentage-point drop.<\/strong> Among the\n largest insulation effects in the entire dataset, third only\n to Real Estate (-37.5pp) and IT Services (-36.0pp).\n <\/p>\n <p>\n <strong>Why:<\/strong> when an Australian buyer searches\n \"management consulting Sydney\" or \"business advisor\n Brisbane CBD\", Google's AI reads it as a \"find a provider\"\n query, not an explainer question. It defers to the local\n organic results and steps back.\n <\/p>\n <p>\n <strong>Translation for your firm:<\/strong> the location-\n and city-targeted service pages most B2B agencies have\n built over the last decade still work. \"Management\n consultants [city]\", \"B2B advisory services [region]\",\n \"professional services [suburb]\" pages trigger AIO at less\n than half the rate of your thought-leadership content. The likely reason is that B2B\n homepages often serve as quasi-content pages, with extensive\n service explainers and value-prop content that the AI can\n summarise.\n <\/p>\n <p>\n <strong>Our view:<\/strong> the page-type spread for B2B\n isn't as extreme as some verticals (54pp between blog and\n homepage), but the floor is higher. Even your safest surface\n (homepage at 33%) is more exposed than most other industries'\n equivalent. Well-written company \"about\" pages on these\n platforms, accurate compensation bands, and managed\n Glassdoor reviews now serve dual purpose: recruiting and\n AI citation.\n <\/li>\n <li>\n <strong>Double down on location-targeted service\n pages.<\/strong> Location-qualified queries trigger AIO at\n 23.0% vs 56.6% for general queries. A 33.6-point safety\n margin. \"Management consulting [city]\", \"professional\n services [suburb]\", \"business advisory [region]\" pages\n remain among the cleanest SEO surfaces. Keep building\n them.\n <\/li>\n <li>\n <strong>Rethink thought-leadership content\n strategy.<\/strong> Blog content triggers AIO 87.2% of the\n time. Generic \"5 ways to improve your B2B sales\" articles\n are now AI summary fodder, not click drivers. The defensive\n move is to write content the AI can't summarise well:\n proprietary data, original case studies with specific\n client outcomes, opinionated takes on Australian\n regulatory or industry shifts. Less \"introduction to\" and\n more \"here's what we found when\".\n <\/li>\n <li>\n <strong>Lean into navigational and brand demand.<\/strong>\n Navigational queries trigger AIO at 31.6%, the cleanest\n intent class.
